Super Easy Chocolate Almond Pastries

These fancy looking treats will be a big hit! Just a few ingredients!

Ingredients:

Frozen Puff Pastry - Both sheets - Defrosted

Milk Chocolate (I used Hershey because they were slightly thicker) - about two large bars*

Almond Paste - 1 Tube

Egg - For egg wash

Sliced Almonds - Optional

2 Tbsp Powdered Sugar

Tools:

Appx. 3inch biscuit cutter, coffee mug or any round object about that size you can use to cut the pastry shapes.

Rollling Pin

*For the chocolate, this recipe makes nine little pastries. You want a chunk of chocolate that's about 1.5inch x 1.5inch. It doesn't have to be exact, but you'll see in the pictures how much surface you want to take up.

Step 1:

Preheat the oven to 400F/204C

Slice the almond paste into nine slices, as even as possible. Just an FYI, the almond paste won't spread a lot during baking, but it will soft and delicious.

Break up the chocolate into nine chunks.

Fold out the first layer of pastry dough and roll out just a little to make it slightly larger.

Arrange the chocolate and slices of almond paste.

Beat the egg for the egg wash and apply it all the uncovered areas around the filling.

Place the top layer of puff pastry and top, and press the dough down around the filling. Using a biscuit cutter or coffee mug, you want to cut each pastry into a circle.

Pinch the edges to seal.

Arrange the pastries on a lined cookie sheet, brush with egg wash and then sprinkle with sliced almonds if you're using them:

Bake for about 25 minutes until or until golden brown. Everyone's oven seems to function a little different, so I'd say anywhere between 25 to 30 minutes, but it shouldn't be more than 30 minutes. You're looking for this color:

Allow to cool for about ten minutes and then sprinkle with powdered sugar.
